How To Make An Ethernet Cable:
Ethernet Cable Instructions:
- The
total length of wire between a computer and a hub or between two PC's should
not exceed 100 Meters (328 feet) for 100BASE-TX and 300 Meters for 10BASE-T.
-
Strip off the cable jacket (about 2.5cm) using a wire stripper or a pen knife.
-
Spread the wires a pair and rearrange them accordingly to the configuration
that you want to make for either straight or cross cables.
-
Press and hold the end between your thumb and forefinger.
- Cut
the wires and make sure that they are even and having only about 1.25cm in
wire length.
- If
it is longer than 1.25cm it will be out-of-spec and susceptible to crosstalk.
Make sure that there are no spaces between wires.
- Hold
the RJ-45 connector with the clip facing down or away from you.
- Push
the wires firmly into the plug. Inspect that each wire is flat at the front of
the plug.
-
Check the order of the wires.
- If
it is correct, firmly crimp the RJ-45 with the crimper.
-
Pull
the tip and ensure that the wire is not about to come apart when pulled.
-
Then test it with a tester
to verify the connectivity.
