How To Make An Ethernet Cable:

Ethernet Cable Instructions:

  1. The total length of wire between a computer and a hub or between two PC's should not exceed 100 Meters (328 feet) for 100BASE-TX and 300 Meters for 10BASE-T.
  2. Strip off the cable jacket (about 2.5cm) using a wire stripper or a pen knife.
  3. Spread the wires a pair and rearrange them accordingly to the configuration that you want to make for either straight or cross cables.
  4. Press and hold the end between your thumb and forefinger.
  5. Cut the wires and make sure that they are even and having only about 1.25cm in wire length.
  6. If it is longer than 1.25cm it will be out-of-spec and susceptible to crosstalk. Make sure that there are no spaces between wires.
  7. Hold the RJ-45 connector with the clip facing down or away from you.
  8. Push the wires firmly into the plug. Inspect that each wire is flat at the front of the plug.
  9. Check the order of the wires.
  10. If it is correct, firmly crimp the RJ-45 with the crimper.
  11. Pull the tip and ensure that the wire is not about to come apart when pulled.
  12. Then test it with a tester to verify the connectivity.
